Addicts don't all look like this:

Some of us look more like this...

FACT:  “Substance abuse rates for people with conditions such as deafness, arthritis or multiple sclerosis are at least double general population estimates"1

Addicted people are found in every walk of life.  When people who work as professionals need help themselves, they often fear the stigma attached to a addiction and never seek help.

People with disabilities and professionals are 2 populations who are underserved when it comes to the disease of addiction.

Leslie Miller is a Newport-based singer/songwriter born near Boston in Somerville, MA on May 9, 1960.   She’s been living with MS since before 1990 (finally diagnosed then).  Having first-hand knowledge of the despair that having a diagnosis like MS can bring, she is painfully aware that anyone with a chronic health condition can have problems with depression, unhealthy relationships, and other addictions.  Her presentations create a safe environment for other persons with disabilities and their family and friends to learn about the warning signs of depression, co-dependency, and substance-misuse.  Leslie is affiliated with National (Faces & Voices of Recovery), Regional (New England Alliance for Addiction Recovery), and local (RI Cares: contact Jim Gillen at 401-521-5759 or by e-mail) advocacy groups who work hard to erase the stigma associated with recovery from addiction.  Their common goal is that no one ever needs to feel ashamed to seek information and help for any of these diseases.  She has access to professionals to present with her to answer questions and give valuable resource information to her audiences.
